PERSONAL INTERVIEWS

In many situations there is nothing more powerful than talking with a person face-to-face. 

The personal interview is a research interviewing technique that focus on capturing the attitudes and opinions of a specific target audience one person at a time. Because they are private, interviewers are able to elicit more detailed responses than might be captured in a telephone interview or focus group. Interviewers also have the advantage of establishing a safe, comfortable environment in which to discuss an issue. They are also able to observe behaviors, clarify questions and probe issues extensively.

Personal interviews are frequently used when sensitive, personal or complex topics have to be explored or where expert opinions are required. They are also used in mall intercepts where consumers or potential consumers are recruited to test products, give opinions, compare specific products or provide feedback about potential advertising campaigns.

Depending on the topic and the goals of the project, interviews can last from 20 minutes to an hour or more.  In many cases some form of compensation is offered to the person for his or her time.
